Earth Day is the perfect occasion to make a small change that has a big impact on the environment – switch to Paperless Billing!
The average American uses the equivalent of seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products made from trees. This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year. Reducing the use of paper helps save trees and reduces waste.
Choosing to go paperless benefits the environment and makes your life a little easier, offering:
-
convenience – you can easily pay your bill online, and you’ll receive reminders about when your payment is due
-
less clutter – there’s no paper bill or envelopes to keep track of, and less mail to deal with
-
savings – no need to purchase stamps or drive to the post office
To enroll in Paperless Billing, sign up online through My Account or call 1-888-766-9900. And if you’re already enrolled in Paperless Billing, thank you.
Here are a few helpful tips to go paperless, at work and at home:
-
Opt out of mailing lists. To put a stop to junk mail, go to FTC and have your name and address removed from mailing lists.
-
Keep scanned documents, not paper ones. Digital storage files enable you to save huge amounts of information in less physical space. No scanner? Take photos of files with your phone and email them to yourself to so you can save them to your computer or hard drive.
-
Recycle. Find out the guidelines for recycling in your area and make a habit out of recycling as much as you can.
-
Purge your mail immediately. Avoid letting the mail stack up, with plans to look at it later. Take a minute to review, sort and purge it when you pick it up.
-
Replace paper subscriptions with digital ones. Reading newspapers, magazines and other media online reduces the use of paper and eliminates the need for you to sort, store and recycle printed copies.
